Nova Studio Design was founded in Perugia in 2019 by Elena Marchetti, after seven years working for product companies in Milan. The decision to base the studio in Perugia rather than Milan or Rome was deliberate. Perugia is a university city, a cultural city, an art city. It is also a place where small and medium businesses, professional firms, and regional institutions have genuine digital design needs and very limited access to the kind of expertise that actually helps.

That combination has defined the studio since day one. Not every client is in Perugia. Some of the best projects have come from Milan, Rome, and clients in Germany and the Netherlands who found the studio through published work. But the Umbrian and Central Italian market, with its mix of traditional businesses, tourism-related digital products, and professional services clients, gives Nova Studio a context that generalist studios in larger cities do not have.

Alessandro joined in 2021 as UX researcher, a role that had been handled case-by-case before and needed to become a formal capability as demand for research-led engagements grew. Sofia joined in 2022, initially for design system work, later taking on full project lead responsibilities for UI-focused engagements.

The studio takes on a limited number of active projects at any given time. Design quality at this level requires sustained attention from people who are not simultaneously managing fifteen other client relationships. The team reviews workload quarterly and adjusts intake accordingly.
